Congratulations to Zoe Katz, 2016 Scholarship Recipient

Zoe is always finding an innovative way to help her neighbors in need, whether she is volunteering at her local senior living community or fundraising for the American Cancer Society.

In her high school career, she launched her own Cupcakes for a Cure initiative, selling homemade confections to help fight cancer. One of Zoe's proudest achievements was bringing the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life® to Sharon High School. In 2015, she helped rally students, teachers, friends and family of the school to raise $6,000 to support the Society's mission to save lives and celebrate life.

Congratulations, Zoe! We wish you continued success at Franklin & Marshall College.

Congratulations to Rachel Allison, 2015 Scholarship Recipient

Rachel estimates that she baked more than 13,000 cookies throughout her high school career. What began as a fundraiser for a school trip to Paris turned into a small-batch baking business supporting Rachel's dreams. She spent hours upon hours in the kitchen each night, baking cookies, brownies, and dessert bars for teachers and students to enjoy. In her senior year, she came up with an official name for her business: "Rachel's Batch - Made From Scratch!"

Giving back is incredibly important to Rachel, and she continues to donate 30% of her revenue to charities that inspire her, including The Make-A-Wish Foundation, World Wildlife Fund, and the Wounded Warrior Project. She also donates her sweet treats to soup kitchens and blood drives.

Congratulations, Rachel! We wish you continued success at the University of Rochester.

Congratulations to Sydney Prokos, 2014 Scholarship Recipient

As charming as the jewelry she designs, Sydney Prokos is an innovative young entrepreneur with big dreams and an even bigger heart.

Sydney launched her first startup at just 13, and at 16, put a new twist on the charm necklace trend with Customized Lockets by Syd. With her own online and in-home stores, she helps her customers design and build one-of-a-kind lockets that represent their personal style.

Sydney also believes in doing well by giving back, and proudly volunteers for a variety of charitable organizations. She even started her own charity focused on helping her elderly neighbors capture their life stories.

The Scholarship Committee congratulates Sydney and wishes her all the best at UMASS Amherst.
